About

The Sheep Section was started soon after the move to the current Showground where there was space for new sections. From the start the aim was to be welcoming to novice as well as experienced sheep exhibitors.

There were breed classes for pedigree sheep (open to registered pedigree as well as those not registered with the relevant breed society) and also commercial sheep which were generally crossbreeds. Over the years the breed sections have slowly evolved to reflect changes in the popularity of different breeds and how many exhibitors were entering the Show. This is an ongoing process, we currently don’t have commercial classes, and this year will see some further changes in the breed groups.

While most entrants come from within the County there are a significant number from further afield who return each year to exhibit their sheep at the Show. While some exhibitors are novices, we have very many seasoned exhibitors showing top quality sheep. The award of the Interbreed Champion sheep is keenly contested. It is the ultimate prize and a great accolade for what will always be a very worthy winner.

As well as the showing of sheep themselves, we have a thriving Young Handler section where the emphasis is on how well the handler can exhibit their charges and show them off to the judge. The entries have been very high in this section, which bodes well for the future with so many youngsters wanting to be part of the Show.

Our entries are growing year on year so we are looking to maintain that momentum again this year. The Show has always been a very friendly place to show sheep and a great day out for all.

If you have a question that isn’t answered in either the schedule or online entry information (where appropriate) please email the section secretaries, Paul and Lindsey Stevenson, sheep@stithians.show or call on 01209 860953 & 07974 351623.
